Holiday Triple Bill - Shenzhen

Our next stop was Tai Po Market, with an avid hope that they still served Tim Sum in the late afternoon. No such luck, it was a wasted trip, with the only plus point being a cat with nice fur and a very distinct 'meow'. You know how I adore pussies, so...

What that wasted deviation meant however, was that by the time we reached Shenzhen after the border crossing at Luo Hu, it was already dark, what with the sun setting early in late autumn.

Check out the photos of our room though - it's nicer and bigger than the one in Hong Kong. It's also cheaper. Space is a premium in Hong Kong. It's in abundance in China, even in a booming city like Shenzhen.

We were late so we could not got to any of the theme parks or historic sites. But I desperately wanted to see something new, so we just picked a nice sounding train station name - it translated roughly to Shenzhen Expo - and walked straight into a shopping centre, Central Walk Mall. It was much like the Mix 'C' complex near out hotel but I was delighted to see that there was a Carrefour outlet over there as I had been longing to see how it compared to our local one. Obviously, the prices had to be cheap for the locals or else who would go there?

And I wasn't disappointed. It is a pity an overzealous salesgirl said that pictures were forbidden or else I would have snapped away at all the myriad number of items which were selling at what we Singaporeans would label 'super knock-down prices'. It is with utmost regret that I failed to take pictures of the 1 Yuan (20 Singapore cents) section. I did however manage to snap some pictures on the sly with my handphone though.

I also managed to snap the price and movie listings at a cinema...

This was how the place looked from the outside.

After that, it was straight to Lao Jie, which held a special place in my friend's heart (not mine). But it sure was one of the most bustling places in Shenzhen on a Saturday night...

We had a late dinner. And for seafood in Shenzhen, we have never been anywhere else since we have discovered Le Yuan Lu. Talk about all the cheap and good outlets in Singapore, Hong Kong or Malaysia, we have not found any place that beats this - yet. If it swims or moves under water, there is a good chance you would find it here.

This is the food we had... The one expensive item was the hairy crab which neither of us knew how to eat.... It wasn't very meaty. But it had lots of roe. My friend thought it good. Not so me.

Come to think of it, it certainly was hairy crab season and they were selling it outside, even in the street...

It was very late by then, so no more sight-seeing... Besides we had a more exciting place to go to the next day. But before that, check out the lobby of the Grand Hyatt, Shenzhen. It's on the 33rd floor. The scenery is what you can see looking out from there.
