My Stomach Runneth Over

Those of you who know me well know that I am on some sort of an austerity drive now -to fatten my wallet and... 'thinen' my waist (and waste). So I generally try to eat considerably less nowadays with the result that my stomach cannot fathom heavy intakes at short intervals.

It was thus with a little bit of consternation that very recently, I had to eat a humungous lunch for a colleague's farewell send-off... Now, I also know that I don't often do close-up photos of food but this was a Teochew restaurant, something that I don't often go to.

There was the cold dish...

Sharks fin soup...

Steamed pomfret...

Braised goose (oodles of)...

Some kind of meat platter with mushrooms and fish maw?...

Half-peeled prawns...

Fried Kway Teow....

Very sweet and nice, and filling Orh Ni...

And to help us digest it all, some special tea in very daintily small cups. And they are really small. Look at the cup in relation to my finger.

I was to suffer from what my friends at Khattar Wong call 'Food Coma' in the afternoon but I have to say the food was really good - very plentiful with lots of leftovers even though there were 13 of us. I can't remember the exact address but I think it's on or near to Amoy Street.

All and good, but in the evening, I had to go for my Mum's birthday. She was giving everyone a treat at Rise at Marina Bay Sands, having accummulated a glut of membership points (in return for increasing Sands' gross revenues significantly). All of us had the buffet. The ingredients were of high quality, the cooking of very decent standard and the popular dishes replaced frequently. The variety was also very good but at $80++ a pop, it may be a tad overpriced. It seems to be very popular though, judging by the number of diners there - recently lucky people (at the casino) perhaps.

I had just recovered from 'Food Coma' and was not eating much substantial food, choosing instead to help my Mum recoup part of her outlay by eating as much expensive items, such as oysters and abalone, as possible, and so have no close-up pictures of the various dishes. A few shots of the place, though...

Food coma at night later as well... -sigh-
