Breezing On A Malayan Float - Perlis

Perlis is the smallest state in Malaysia. And we visited it on the same trip to Kedah. To me, there is nothing like an overland 'border' crossing without customs.

As I said in an earlier post, we had to go the capital of each state in order to properly say we had gotten a little of the state's... quintessence. But our driver, Hariss was surprised when we said we wanted to go to Kangar for a look-see.... "Nothing much to see there", said he. And he was right... Kangar looked like any other small-to-mid-sized Malaysian town...(Is that a good enough excuse for misplacing some of my photos?)... Anyhow, this is the symbol of Perlis in Kangar...

And the nearby Timah Tasoh Dam...

More interesting was the fact that Perlis has two border crossings into Thailand. One at Padang Besar and one at Wang Kelian. We took the one at Padang Besar. This was pretty cool. Reaching Thailand by travelling totally overland.

As I said I lost several photographs and therefore can't show you what it looked like across the border. A lot of shops selling sundry goods. Cheaper than in Malaysia, but not that much...

Neither can I show you much of the big bazaar/ shopping complex on the Malaysian side of the border which has... a lot of shops selling sundry goods. Slightly dearer than in Thailand, but not much :)...

We also dropped by Kuala Perlis to catch a ferry to Langkawi. Lots of restaurants with cheap and fresh seafood near the terminal.

And a beautiful sunset...
